- From A Woman to Her Daughter-in-Law
Dear Child,
I can never be your mother for a mother is one who gives birth to you and raises you to be who you are. I am happy to have you as a part of my family and give you my son. Truly, I believe and wish you both a great amount of happiness – which you deserve – always.
I understand you will leave your whole single life behind you when you step into matrimony. Matrimony is hard work and perseverance and an experience that flourishes if lived with love. I understand there will be adjustments and tiffs but that is just a small part of it. I may not understand the look in your eyes the way your mother does, I said I cannot replace your mother – but let me be your best friend.
I shall love you, respect you, need you to be there for me as only a best friend can. I will be by your side and never give up on you. I shall believe in you and have faith in all you do – as only a best friend can. You need not feel afraid of me, or hide things, for your best friend will be your confidante.
I promise you days of laughter and salads and freshly baked bread and movies and shopping sprees. I’ll accompany you to the doctor, if need be. I shall guide you when you come to me with your problems. I’ll be a fair judge, if you need me to ever give you advice about an issue between the two of you. I promise to hold your hand when you cry and if you feel like a bottle of wine, I shall give you company.
I can be your best friend, if you will let me.
