The Storm October 26, 2009

You came to me
in storm
to cover my body
with a blanket.
You shielded my eyes
with your hands
and didn’t care for your own.
You carried me through
the storm
into your home.
You saved my blood
from going cold
and eased my fears
during sleepless nights.
You stood by me through
the storm
even when you shivered in pain
and no apology of mine was salve enough.
You saw me climb into a jet to safety,
tears running down your face
and I knew your love, then.

I called you some nights after
the storm died away
to tell you I had found Amadeus.
How you loved me,
were words I heard over and over again.
I heard the tears in your voice.
I understood what it meant to be the beloved,
when I saw your scars bleed
from the chaos of the storm
and yet you smiled for me.
