My Very Own Valentine’s Day – 2009 February 14, 2009
Valentine’s Day & I am without my Valentine. Anyway, you’re gonna have to bear with me as I drone on in loneliness… about my Valentine’s Day and how this day was awesome and how I enjoyed it instead of being my usual lethargic self.
DH had his designs prepared for me. He discussed them with my brother. Tweaky my darling, and DH are great friends. So this whole thing was kept a secret.
Tweaks bought me a gorgeous bouquet. And for this sincere effort he received a kiss on his nose
And a beautiful card which I’m not sharing here.
It was the best surprise I received in a long time. And DH made it as special and precious as gold.
Besides this I helped mom in the kitchen. Made some sev puri. A tongue tickling blend of Indian spices and snacks. Missed DH plenty. Made him a powerpoint presentation which I hope he liked. And then went to the mosque for prayers on the occasion of the 40th Day of Death of Imam Hussain (A.S.) Mom cooked some awesome rice and I hogged it up.
I’m pondering over our previous Valentine’s Day – the 14th of Feb 2008. We’d really enjoyed ourselves. Right from playing dress up to the time we reached home. I was dressed in a corset top in orange with gold Zardozi work on it. Iqbal suggested I team it up with low waist white pants. And gold stilleto sandals. The effect was stunning. DH is quite good with his fashion sense. He was all cute in his favorite Levis jeans and shirt. The corset was dated back to 24th November 2005. The day of our marriage. I’d put on 3 kilos since then. The corset was a little too tight. We decided to dine at Chillis and were lucky we got space. Within a few morsels I felt my blouse tighten and DH had to undo 2 hooks. By the time the meal ended, and we reached our car.. my stomach was threatening to tear my clothing. DH undid all the hooks and I put on my winter jacket. Lucky I carried it… We found ourselves next on Jumeirah Beach. Walking, Talking, Guffawing. The typical. We were home at about 1:30 am and watched a romantic movie on Evision. It was only until after dawn that we drifted to sleep.
We didn’t exchange gifts, but he surprised me with a single red rose, and it was a perfect day.
V-Day in 2007 – It had been 27 days since I made an entrance into UAE. Iqbal was dishing out cash right, left and center. We were making basic purchases to set up home. And that was the time I realized how much money was required to set up even the basics. DH was more world wise. We were adjusting to a new life, new ways, a new place and a new beginning. It wasn’t cake walk.
On Wednesday, the 14th of Feb, we’d purchased a huge cupboard from IKEA. The idea was that by Thursday evening the cupboard would be filled with clothes and all our other belongings, while DH was at work. And so we’d get to spend the entire Friday lazing about. We spent a good two hours assembling the cupboard. Hammering in the nails. Joining doors and shelves. After the mission was accomplished, we dined a simple meal and slept off… It was the perfect Valentine’s Gift. A cupboard. A symbol of us starting over together.
And the magic word in this world for all it’s people is was and will always be – together. This is what we learnt.
